The spoon is now apparently the knife, they renamed it. It's not a wieldable weapon, just something you can throw.

FF VIII sucks Cecil's crystal codpiece.

I'm in the Lunar Subterrane now, not far from the end. Except it is far because that is one freakishly long and grueling dungeon.

I can see why everyone hated it when it came out... it felt very out of context for the whole FF series at the time. But if you go back to it and just accept it as an episode in it the whole series instead of some horrible outcast, it actually has its own really kewl thing goin on. I'm enjoying the living shit out of it. Just as much as I did the others.

No, honestly, I dislike it because I have some major problems with the gameplay. Of all the FF games I've played, VIII was far, far worse than any of the rest. Nothing to do with it being 'different', I liked the story. A lot. It just plays like absolute crap, I felt like a slave going through the same ridiculous process over and over just to see what would happen next. I never felt excited about a battle, or a boss, or anything like that. In FFIV I'm like oooh, I get to fight Dark Bahamut now. VIII I'm like yay, another boss, let's summon some GFs like I do in every other battle in the entire game...

I forgot Odin and had to go back for him. Feel like a n00b because of that. Apparently the characters you don't use gain experience along with the rest of your party. Yang has over 5000 hp now and maxed out strength, and Cid is pretty badass with Thor's Hammer. Still going to use the 'classic' party to finish the game first though, then I'll try it with some other characters. I think I'll probably use Cid in place of Kain, Yang in place of Edge, and Palom and Porom in place of Rydia and Rosa. Edward is just too much of a pussy to bother with, and I don't think his uber-harp does anything useful.

FFVIII's story is teh win. The fighting is waay waay too easy. And the bosses and monsters are supposed to stay within a level range of you so that they never become easy as if they weren't always easy anyway.

I like the system even tho it doesn't work, the enemies need to be harder and there need to be more of them. Other than that, w00t w00t

It's not that the battles are easy, it's that they're easy and they take SO LONG. It's a tremendous waste of time. In contrast a battle in FFIV is over in like 25 seconds. In FFVIII it's 25 seconds before you get to pick your first action.

The story though, yeah. When they're out in space, and Rinoa is floating out there running out of air, I was on the edge of my seat all tensed up. And there were some pretty sweet scenes when your home was being invaded, stuff like that. Classic FF storytelling messed up by oddball gameplay mechanics. I'd love to play a redo of the game with totally new mechanics, I think it'd be sweet.

EDIT: I finished FFIV last night, but I still have to do the lunar ruins. I'm looking forward to bosses that might kill me. 8)

The Lunar Ruins is the rockingest dungeon of all FF.

That is all.

I'm still at the Tower of Zot...I haven't devoted any time to the game lately. Wasn't the lunar dungeon in FF2?

Not the Lunar Subterrane, but the Lunar Ruins. It's a new dungeon that opens up after you finish the game. There are 40 floors, every 4 floors there's a save point and a 'trial' area for one character. The floors in between are randomly selected from a pool of about 50, so you don't see everything your first time through. Which is fine, because you have to do it at least three times to finish everyone's trials. There's ridiculously powerful equipment in there, and monsters and bosses to match.

So what do you do with the item that is given to you after you have defeated a characters trial boss?
