Most of them are pretty crappy. There was one with a helicopter though, that was freaking awesome. And there's one where you can fly a MiG fighter, but I have to figure out the interface.

I spent last night doing this:

Hahaha, that looks so funny. You can't help but look timid somehow when wearing that and using a wheel. Don't know why that is, because you weren't- just some sort of funky optical illusion.

The wheel is mounted a lot higher than I would like. Once the game officially supports the Rift and the retail version is out, I plan to build a cockpit for it with wheel and pedal mounts and a real car seat.

Holy crap; word is Carmack is LEAVING id to join Oculus.

It's fuzzy though; the site announcing it is down, and the twitter-verse if unclear whether he's actually leaving id, or just joining Oculus (as CTO). I can't imagine he can do both, so even if he doesn't leave id, I'd say his presence there will be lessened significantly.

That's nutso.

I can't imagine he can do both either, but id Software announced that he would be staying, and that his technical leadership at id would be "unaffected". I think that's BS, but you know, they have to convince their shareholders or whatever.

These guys have a pretty cool system. They use motion tracking balls and software in a sort of "arena". I like how they talk about how the walls etc map to the actual walls in the game.

I was right about this. Carmack announced last month that he's done at id Software.

Also, Oculus just raised another $75 million in funding, and they're closer to their V1 product than they thought they would be. They're unveiling something at CES in early January. Woo!

Finally got my hands on one. Wow! It is pretty freaking amazing. However, it was one of the dev kit ones. It made me sick within about a minute. It ran just choppy enough that my ears and my brain were like NOPE!!!! However, the newer ones that will be coming out are much, much better, and a gal I know said the new one doesn't make her motion sick at all. That is refreshing.

Now, I just need to find people to help me develop a project on it. Just need a couple of 5 minute games. I have a plan. I just have no skills to execute it.

Oculus really cleaned up at CES this month. They demoed the latest prototype with positional tracking, higher refresh rate, and a low persistence display. It won best of show. :)

They've solved basically all the problems with the dev kit. I believe they could mass produce the current kit and be very successful, the only obstacle remaining is getting a launch library of supporting games. I can't wait!

This is pissing me off. I've seen this, and I'd like to try it, but... look at the [download site](http://apps.virtualreality.io/apps/zeldavr-beta). Yeah, it's a company that has this metro-looking app that launches games. And apparently, they have an exclusivity agreement with the author(s) of ZeldaVR. Lame.

And here I thought you were a Zelda fan. Or at least an Oculus fan. But I guess you're not willing to be either. Tsk tsk tsk.

Project Morpheus looks interesting. I'm eager to read some impressions- hopefully we see some later today/tomorrow.

Looks cool. Obviously not as far along nor as advanced as the Oculus, but they're not releasing for over a year. I'm curious about the "3dSound".

EeeeeEEEEeeeeEeeeeeEEEEeeeee I'm so excited! 8)

It's about time the consoles got in on this. Sony's been making crappy expensive HMDs for years now. Their announcement today sounds promising. And MS is of course now throwing their hat in, but they're not as far along.

Also, Oculus announced the DK2 today, shipping in July. My preorder is in. :D

Part of me is kind of deliciously excited that MS is behind the ball on this one. Sony just seems to be much more in tune with what gamers and people want, and the direction things are going.

Knowing MS, they won't stay behind for long. Just you wait -- Windows 9 will be VR whether you want it or not!
