Anyone got the beta? This is looking to be Blizzard's best game yet. I especially like all the crazy stuff you can do with the editor, and the improvements to battle.net.

The editor is pretty sweet. I like the 3rd person control you can have over individual units. It will make the RPG dungeon crawl style maps that much sweeter.

I can't wait to play it because it's SC, but I don't know anything about it. I heard beta is only multi, and that once it comes out you'll have to purchase 3 different games in order to play thru single player as each race?

Yeah, it's going to be expensive. $60 (for a PC game) gets you the Terran campaign, and the future campaigns will be "priced as expansions" which I assume will mean $40. Ouch. Each one is 30 missions, though, and I think I might actually get into multiplayer this time. The beta is way easier to play than the original SC, and they place you against players near your skill level.

I saw a commercial for SC2 on television yesterday night. I can't wait to play!

HELL, IT'S ABOUT TIME.

This game is awesome.

I've played 6 or 7 missions so far. I like the way they're given to you once you're on the Hyperion -- you can choose the order in which you complete the missions, but you still get to do them all in one playthrough (at least so far from what I've seen). I also love that you get plenty of units that aren't in the multiplayer, but make sense for the campaign. Old units like medics, firebats, and goliaths have made their way into the campaign, which adds a lot of welcome variety. Starcraft's problem was that the missions were too alike -- build an army, crush your opponents. There are way more things to do in SC2. I'll avoid spoilers for now, except to say that the day/night mission was completely awesome.

I also love the way you get upgrades, and this is where you actually do miss out on stuff, depending on what you decide to research and spend your credits on. During missions, you can complete optional objectives to gain "research points", like finding Protoss artifacts or killing unique Zerg creatures, and at each level of research you're forced to choose between two technologies. The one you don't pick is lost forever, so it makes each playthrough unique. You also get credits for completing each mission, and you can spend those on upgrades at the armory. Some are the same as the MP upgrades (except you spend credits on them instead of minerals and gas, and you have them at the start of every mission once you buy them), and some are completely new. Again, you don't have nearly enough credits to buy all the upgrades that are available, so you're always making judgement calls.

I've got plenty more to say, but that would cut into my playing time. ;)

Nice! I got into the WOW: Cataclysm Beta (Spoiler more of the same game) so I'll be exhausting that for free for a few months. Then I'll pick up Starcraft 2 when it goes on sale. (bwahahahahahahaha!)

I was in the beta and enjoyed it but really was on the fence about purchasing the actual game but me and a few friends conferred and finally decided to take the leap and buy Starcraft and quit WoW for a few months.

I've played WoW on and off since launch after making the transition from my favorite game of all-time Warcraft III. I play it with a group of real life friends mainly but we are all making the move to Starcraft and Heroes of Newerth (a Dota from Warcraft III clone).

I just played my first ever multiplayer game of Starcraft. I lost.

And it was fucking sweet! WHAT a rush! I actually managed not to fuck up my initial build order too much, which I'd practiced against the CPU. According to the graphs after the game, I was collecting more resources than my opponent, and we had about equal armies, but I lost most of mine when I charged up his ramp and ran into mass hydras. I should have scouted before sending my guys up there. I had just destroyed his expansion, and I had my own expansion secure, so all I needed to do was contain him while I teched up and continued expanding. Oh well, next time. :)

I had a tough time playing this one Campaign level that was like the movie Pitch Black. I had to kill the enemy bases during the day and defend my camp at night. It took me so long to complete. I suck at this game.

You have to either post your battle.net e-mail address, in which case you become "Real ID" friends, or post your character name and friend code. I'm Entroper (716).

I qualified for Bronze League. I am a total noob.
